What we should learned from Koko Narak

Being the initial campaigner and the cause of all turmoil for Koko Narak, I feel some sadness and guilt that through my writings many things in his life has to change.

Though my original intention is just to damper Koko's racist remarks in the ASEAN page by compiling screenshots of his racist remarks from different members and originally posting as comments rebutting him through a dummy Facebook account. I eventually published a blog since his insults are getting serious.

"Sometimes, it really cost much to learn a very simple lesson."

On top of Koko's insulting out-of-this-world remarks, there are some criticisms on Filipinos and the Philippines he made on ASEAN Community which I think are true, constructive and worth sharing. Maybe it’s our turn to learn something from Koko. I gathered the screenshots from the ASEAN page from Koko which are still available up to now.

1. Filipinos are overly pride of our GDP rate, though there are many things to accomplish yet. Our online "Pinoy Pride" is hated not by Thais alone but by other nationalities are well.

2. Filipinos are starstruck ignoramuses, beauty pageant droolers and complete bashers.

3. Filipinos bread like rabbits, the question is why?

4. Filipinos like to hide nasty things about the country, and hate to be criticized about it

5. Why many Filipinos are unemployed in their own country.

6. Where are the lands for farmers have gone?

7. Filipinos are overly proud of their English skills, which is not really EVERYTHING for our Asian neighbors. That's why I cringe when we insult them how bad their grammar is.

8. Philippine politics (and even the Constitution) is designed to protect the Oligarchs of this country

9. Philippine infrastructure is really our government’s least priority

Dear Readers,

The man under our scrutiny has finally written an apology to all Filipinos he has insulted. You may read Koko Narak's apology on the ASEAN Community's posts to page section:  https://www.facebook.com/ASEANCommunity. You can write your comments/message to his apology there:

"To All Filipinos on this page"! This is my great sorrow to inform you that I am very sorry what I've done or posted the racist comments wheter on the Asean page or my personal facebook. No matter the comments I have done are either from my intention or my playfullness. Kindly accept my apology.

At the first sight of my intention to join this page, I came across just to do the debate only. I didn't mean to hurt your heart Filipinos. Surprisingly, mosts of my debates on the page hurt you because of my imaturity. This is my sincere apology to all of you Filipinos. What I would like to inform you is, I am not feeling scared of the post or the blog. But I am feeling scared of brokening all Filipinos' heart here. Many comments that I posted on the page are kind of playful more than my intention to be racist to all Filipinos.

Back to the past, I had many Filipino friends in my school plus I had Filipinos teachers. I would like to let you guys know that I am not that kind of person as you see on the page. I am not trying to say I am good or perfect or make an excuse. But at least, I have many Filipino friends here. I have helped them their financial problem. Many of my friends had no milk to feed their children, no rental monthly, no electricity and no food. I am the one who had helped them with my heart. Bcos I know how they were feeling at that time. I used to be cheated as well. Plus, I always share my happiness to them buying snack, toy and etc to share with the children as I can handle. I am such a pityful person even I sometime have a negative prejudice on Filipinos. I am not trying to request your sympatize to me but I am trying all dear Filipinos here to think of me in another way. I am very an approachable guy spending my life as Filipinos do, hanging out with friends at the cheap place, singing videoke like Filipinos, buying cloths from Changke.

I hope you Filipinos will understand and accept my apology. Feedback from my company, I have talked and discussed regarding the situation already and I got penalty what I had done. I am deserved it I know. Hope you guys kindly accept my apology since Filipinos are well known to be kind and friendly. Am I right? I might move from here to another branch abroad not in The Philippines anymore but I hope that you will welcome me whenever I come back. I wish I could be welcome from you guys Filipinos.

Finally, once I post this apology to you. I will unlike on this page and never come back again. This is my sincere responsibility and I will handle all by myself everything I have done.

Please do not drag my company Cognizant to be the victim or hostage for the situation since I love Cognizant so much. It is one of the best company here I have ever joined with. It is the company I join the longest among those companies when I was in Thailand. I think I have clarified everything already to all Filipinos. Hope this apology will be notified you guys."

As a Filipino, it hurts me to see and hear this kind of insult. We are entitled to all our opinion, but Koko Narak created divide in the ASEAN community and showed hatred and racism drawing many other members of the page to insult Filipinos as well.

But we are Filipino, we are kind and hospitable. In my opinion, we should take time to read his apology and consider giving Koko a second chance. He may be banished from the Philippines but we can welcome him as a visitor and show him our genuine Filipino hospitality.

What we should learn from Koko Narak

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Readers,

The purpose of this blog has been accomplished. Koko Narak (Kosin)has been reprimanded and is now leaving the Philippines in few days time. Let us stop bullying and threatening the person. Let him leave our country safely and please do not wish to inflict him harm and put the law in your hands.

We hope Koko has learned his lesson and will not commit the same mistake again. Let us just instead wish him a good life back in his country.

As we are nearing the ASEAN Integration at the end of this year, let us be more open and tolerant to different culture and make our best to avoid racist remarks and discrimination.
